Healthy Tips/Weight Loss Management
Healthy diet must be a life long endeavor...
  1. Digestion starts from the mouth, chew your food well
  2. Avoid ice cold beverage and do not drink beverage with meals
  3. Do not eat heavy foods upon rising or before retiring (no eating after 7pm…this gives your system plenty of hours for digestion)
  4. Eat only when hungry, do not over-eat
  5. Get plenty of rest
  6. Do not consume saturated fats, avoid fried and greasy foods
  7. Consume only natural whole foods
  8. Avoid precooked and highly processed foods (which overwork the organs & that destroys enzymes and nutrients)
  9. Consume 50% raw “living” foods and extra fiber
  10. Steam, broil or bake your foods and undercook your  vegetables
  11. Omit white flour, white sugar, white rice, white salt and pepper (use raw sea salts, red pepper flakes, and whole pepper).
  12. Cleanse your system periodically by fasting with pure, fresh juices
  13. (For an advance body cleanse), intestinal/colon cleanse at least once annually
  14. Consume foods free/low of toxic insecticides and chemicals – organic/grow your own.
  15. Avoid foods with preservatives and additives
  16. Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, drugs, and stress – nothing in excess!
  17. Take quality multi-vitamin/mineral supplement when needed, plus intake EFA (essential fatty acids)
  18. Drink purified water, mineral water/steam-distilled water daily - (see all about water) & (purchase).
  19. Enjoy fresh air and sunshine, exercise, walking/stretching in your daily or weekly activity
  20. Keep active mentally and physically, maintain a positive state of mind
  21. Minimize intake of dairy products (cheese, milk, sour cream, eggs), instead intake small quantities of raw goat cheese, nonfat cottage cheese, kiefer, unsweetened low-fat plain yogurt/goat yogurt/Greek yogurt. Dairy products can be replaced with rice, and almond products.
  22. Minimize flesh intake (beef, pork, processed meats, duck, goose), instead intake more fish (see & download PDF Fish List), skinless turkey or chicken – limit meats maximum once/twice weekly.
  23. FRUIT – Eat it alone or leave it alone! To eat fruit it’s best upon rising, wait one hour after eating fruit to eat another meal
  24. Proper food combining helps your metabolism, weight loss, detoxify your system.

QUICK EXIT COMBINATION TIPS
  1. Foods in different categories should never be mixed in the same meal, but foods in the same category may be enjoyed at the same meal.
  2. All vegetables (except high-starch vegetables such as sweet potatoes, acorn, or butternut squash) may be enjoyed with flesh dishes!
  3. All vegetables may be enjoyed with starch meals!
  4. Avocados are also unique in that they are technically a fruit but combine as a starch. They can also combine with dried fruit but not with nuts. This is an interesting exception that should be well noted.
  5. Fruits should only be consumed on an empty stomach  - at least 3 hours after a properly combined meal (or ideally, as your morning meal). Your new fruit mantra: “Eat it alone or leave it alone”.
  6. Fresh fruit only takes twenty to thirty minutes to exit the stomach completely, so you may enjoy another category of food thirty minutes after consuming fresh fruit.
  7. Bananas are special in that they cross over several categories. They combine well with both fresh fruit and dried fruit as well with avocados. Note that bananas require approximately forty-five minutes in the stomach as opposed to thirty minutes for other fresh fruit.
  8. Never eat fresh fruit for dessert after a cooked meal, as it will cause fermentation.
  9. Wait three to four hours after eating before switching food groups.
  10. If you have a very large appetite, eat more within the same food type. For example, you’re better off having two pieces of fish or two plates of whole grain pasta with vegetables instead of introducing a different food category – or eating three sweet potatoes “instead of” one sweet potato with a piece of fish, chicken, or other flesh.
  11. Nuts, seeds, and dried fruits go better with raw vegetables than cooked vegetables.
  12. Dairy can be combined with flesh in most cases.
  13. Nut butters should not be placed on grain breads.
  14. When eating an exclusively “raw meal”, beginners can get away with mixing starches (like avocados) and raw nuts or preparing recipes with small amounts of fresh fruits because there are plenty of enzymes to help digestion. Again, only good when eating in a raw diet or during detox/cleanse diet.
  15. Raw corn combines as a vegetable; cooked corn combines as a starch. You can eat unlimited amounts of raw corn – enjoy it right off the cob in the summertime!
  16. If you are going to “miscombine” a meal, do it at dinner so your body has plenty of time to move it through the stomach before the next meal (which is the next day - morning).
  17. Starch meals should only include the highest-quality starches (whole grains, sprouted grains breads, sweet potatoes, and so forth).
  18. Don’t let hard-core rules of eating mono-meals and keeping different fruit categories separate discourage you. These rules are not important when first starting into “Good Food Combining”, soon you’ll get the hang of it and start feeling and looking the difference. Focus on enjoying your meal and improving your food choices!
  19. Dark Chocolate (i.e. Dagoba and Green & Black’s) 70% or more chocolate bars make the perfect dessert for any food category. Remember to enjoy a small portion, not the whole bar. (70% pure chocolate contains less sugar, milk, or other ingredients that make chocolate a “no-no” at a lower percent).
  20. Condiments, 70-percent chocolate, nut milks (i.e. Almond Milk), and of course all raw vegetables are neutral, which means they can be mixed with any foods category except fruit!

Healing Powers of Cinnamon & Honey

Healing Powers of Cinnamon

Cinnamon is gathered from the dried inner bark of the branches of a small, tropical, evergreen laurel tree. The bark is peeled off and, as the pieces are dried, they curl up into quills. These are the common cinnamon sticks that are used in herb teas and for baking.
In Chinese medicine, cinnamon is one of the most widely used “warming” herbs that aid in circulation and digestion. It is a common ingredient used in tea for nausea during pregnancy. It is also used following delivery to decrease hemorrhage. Cinnamon raises vitality, warms the system, stimulates all the vital functions of the body, counteracts congestion, improves digestion, relieves abdominal spasms and aids in peripheral circulation.
The health benefits of cinnamon can be attributed to its antibacterial, anti-fungal, antimicrobial, astringent and anti clotting properties. Cinnamon is rich in essential minerals such as manganese, iron and calcium. It is also rich in fiber.
The essential oils contained in cinnamon include eugenol, cinnamic aldehyde, methyl-eugenol, tannin, and mannitol, which gives cinnamon its sweet flavor. It also contains cinnzelanin and cinnzelanol, which are both known insecticides. Try putting some liquid soap and cinnamon in a spray bottle and use on plants as an organic bug repellent. Cinnamon is also included in many medicinal recipes that are used for lice, scabies, and other skin parasites.
Cinnamon has anti-fungal, antiviral and antibacterial activities. It has been shown to suppress E. coli, staphylococcus, and candida albicans.
Cinnamon, it turns out, has long been used to cure everything from athlete’s foot to indigestion. Early civilizations recognized its ability to stop bacterial growth. The Egyptians used it in embalming. During the Middle Ages, it was mixed with cloves and warm water, and placed in the sick rooms of victims of the Bubonic Plague.
Recent research indicates that cinnamon can have favorable effects on brain function. Participants in a study chewed cinnamon gum or smelled the sweet spice. Cognitive tests revealed that subjects who used cinnamon had better memory functions and could process information more quickly. Encouraged by these findings, scientists will now conduct studies to see if cinnamon will improve mental skills in the elderly and those prone to anxiety before testing.

That antiseptic power of the spice could also account for a couple of other medical applications for cinnamon. A Japanese study suggests it can not only soothe the stomach, it may even help prevent ulcers. German research claims cinnamon “suppresses completely” the bacteria that causes urinary tract infections and the fungus associated with yeast infections as well.
Recent headlines about cinnamon are the result of an accidental finding in a Maryland USDA research center. Incredibly, the catalyst was as American as good old apple pie, flavored with — what else — cinnamon. Scientists were testing the effects of various foods on blood sugar (glucose) levels. They expected the classic pie to have an adverse effect, but instead they found it actually helped lower blood glucose levels.
The researchers then took their surprising discovery and tested it in a small 60 patient study conducted in Pakistan, reporting in the journal Diabetes Care. All the patients had been treated for type 2, adult onset diabetes for several years and were taking anti-diabetic drugs to increase their insulin output. But they were not yet taking insulin to help process their blood glucose. The subjects were given small doses of cinnamon ranging from as little as a quarter teaspoon to less than 2 teaspoons a day for 40 days.
The results: Not only did the cinnamon reduce their blood sugar levels and increase their natural production of insulin, it lowered their blood cholesterol as well. Even 20 days after the cinnamon treatment had ended, the patients continued to see beneficial effects.
This is good news for the more than 50 million Americans who suffer from diabetes and/or heart disease. All the patients in the study showed better glucose metabolism and natural insulin production when they took cinnamon capsules that delivered less than two teaspoons a day of the spice.
Specifically, their blood cholesterol levels were lowered in the range of 10 to 26 percent, affecting overall cholesterol levels and reducing the LDL (known as the “bad” cholesterol) but not reducing levels of HDL, the “good” cholesterol.
This is also potentially good news for the many millions more of us who suffer from insulin resistance, sometimes known as “pre-diabetes,” or the “Metabolic Syndrome.” Lowering blood sugar levels, and improving cholesterol ratios can help reverse pre diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome, and in fact may actually prevent the worsening of health to full diabetes.
In addition, addressing elevated blood sugar levels and helping to combat insulin resistance may be a successful factor in helping you lose weight. The fat cells in your abdomen are particularly sensitive to high insulin levels, and are very effective at storing energy – far more so that fat cells you’d find in other areas such as the lower body (i.e. hips, rear end, thighs). Because abdominal fat cells are so close to your digestive organs, and there is an extensive network of blood vessels circulating in the abdominal area, it’s even easier for fat cells to store excess glucose there. So tactics that help to reduce

If you suffer from elevated cholesterol or diabetes you will want to consult your physician before beginning to use cinnamon in large quantities. And if you are already taking a diabetes medication, you should talk to your physician before trying cinnamon for medicinal uses, because cinnamon may have an impact on your blood sugar.

USING CINNAMON

Some people prefer to use cinnamon as a supplement, and this is certainly a safe and effective way to incorporate cinnamon into your diet. Be sure you pick a quality supplement.
Others would rather get their ½ to 2 teaspoons of cinnamon a day using the spice in their foods. The cinnamon you can pick up off any grocery shelf comes from the bark of the evergreen cinnamon tree, and was probably grown in China. You’ll find it in stick or ground form at most markets and health food stores.
For patients who want to try cinnamon, there are many tasty and simple ways you can enjoy this aromatic spice.
Steep your favorite herbal tea with a cinnamon stick adds flavor to the tea
Add one-half teaspoon of cinnamon to unsweetened applesauce
Add cinnamon to your breakfast cereal or oatmeal
Sprinkle on toast
Adding cinnamon to butter or cream cheese
Sprinkle cinnamon on your morning cup of coffee, cocoa or cappuccino
Cinnamon also combines very favorably with many baked fruits like peaches and apples as well as fruit juices and ciders.
Cinnamon Precautions and Warnings
Avoid this herb if you have a high fever, are red and sweating, or have irritable bowel syndrome. If you have multiple allergies or sensitivities, use cinnamon cautiously. If you’re pregnant, you may use cinnamon in baking, but avoid more than a cup of cinnamon tea each day.
Side Effects of Cinnamon
Some people may experience a warming sensation or sweating, and some may experience headaches, nausea, or diarrhea after ingesting two or more cupfuls of a strong cinnamon tea or spiced cider. People with irritable bowel conditions and allergies may react to this herb.
If you have a fever or diarrhea caused by irritation or stimulation in the intestines, such as with stomach flu, food poisoning, irritable bowel, or colitis, cinnamon may worsen the condition. (Most sudden onset, acute episodes of diarrhea are due to inflammation, irritation, or infection, and a strong dose of cinnamon could further stimulate the bowels.) If you have a severe irritable bowel, a bowl of cinnamon-flavored cereal could have a laxative effect.
Cinnamon leaf oil has been found to be very effective in killing mosquito larvae.
Side Effects
Excessive use of cinnamon bark may cause inflamed taste buds, tender gums, and mouth ulcers. Large quantities can change breathing, dilate blood vessels, and cause sleepiness, depression, or even convulsions.
Now it is being used all over the world for treating a variety of health disorders including respiratory problems, skin infections, blood impurity, menstruation problems, heart disorders, etc. The most widely used part of cinnamon is its bark.

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF CINNAMON INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Brain Tonic: Cinnamon boosts the activity of the brain and hence acts as a good brain tonic. It helps in removing nervous tension and memory loss. Research at the Wheeling Jesuit University in the US has proved that the scent of cinnamon has the ability to boost brain activity. Colon Cancer: It also improves the health of colon and thereby reducing the risk to colon cancer.
Mouth freshener: Cinnamon is used in chewing gums as it is a good mouth freshener and removes bad breath.
Perfumes: It has a refreshing aroma and is extensively used in making perfumes.
Indigestion: Cinnamon is added in many ethnic recipes. Apart from adding flavor to the food, it also aids in digestion. Cinnamon is very effective for indigestion, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhea and flatulence. Due to its carminative properties, it is very helpful in removing gas from the stomach and intestines. It also removes acidity, diarrhea and morning sickness. It is therefore often referred to as a digestive tonic.
Respiratory problems: Cinnamon helps in cold, flu, influenza, sore throat and congestion.
Menstruation: Cinnamon is effective in providing relief from menstrual discomfort and cramping.

"Natural Remedies of Honey and Cinnamon"

(Be sure your honey is 100% Pure Raw Honey, cheap honey is mostly made of sugar sweeteners)!
It is found that a mixture of Honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a "Ram Ban" (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases. Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada, on its issue dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by Honey and Cinnamon as researched by western scientists:
HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins.
ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.
BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.
TOOTHACHE:
Make a paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth. This may be applied 3 times a day till the tooth stops aching.
CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken 3 times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.
COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for 3 days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold and clear the sinuses.
UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.
GAS:
According to the studies done in India & Japan, it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.
IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases.
INDIGESTION:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food, relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.
INFLUENZA:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ingredient which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.
LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take 4 spoons of honey, 1 spoon of cinnamon powder and 3 cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, 3 to 4 times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increases and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.
PIMPLES:
Three tablespoons of Honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.
WEIGHT LOSS:
Daily in the morning ½ hour before breakfast on an empty stomach and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one-cup water. If taken regularly it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking of this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.
CANCER:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month 3 times a day.
FATIGUE:
